Destination Wedding in Kauai at Poipu Beach

Katie and Jack’s intimate destination wedding in Kauai was truly a dream day!
As their photographer, I loved capturing their incredibly sweet and lively wedding day. Katie and Jack live in Los Angeles and love surfing and the ocean, so they opted for a destination wedding in one of their favorite places – Hawaii!
When Katie first reached out to me, she had seen some of my Super 8 wedding films and was super excited at the prospect of having her wedding captured on the vintage video format. Super 8 captures bright, tropical colors so beautifully. Naturally, I was thrilled at the idea.
I photographed this wedding at Sheraton Kauai Resort on film and digital – a mix of 35mm and medium format – and all of the photos you see here are film shots. With the help of my assistant, we also captured video clips on Super 8 throughout for a dreamy wedding film.
The day began for me in the bridal suite with Katie, where she had all her closest girlfriends and family to get ready with her. She bought all of them vintage silk robes, so everyone looked cohesive and fab.
Katie’s wedding dress was a stunning two-piece ensemble by Grace Loves Lace. I hadn’t seen a two-piece dress before, and I loved the idea! It had a subtle floral pattern, perfect for the location.
Next I stopped by Jack’s room, where he was getting ready with his son, best man, and dad.
Soon, it was time to head down for the ceremony! Jack and Katie had thirty guests at their wedding, which was a perfect intimate size. Their ceremony overlooked the ocean at Sheraton Poipu, surrounded by palms.
After the ceremony, we headed over to the cocktail and reception area, which took place under a charming tent on the water. There was a small beach right in front, where the kids skipped rocks. This ended up being my favorite moment I captured at the whole wedding.
After speeches, I stole Katie and Jack away for some sunset portraits. The pastel colors of the Kauai sky were so dreamy.
Katie and Jack finished their evening with a first dance to Elvis, cake, and dancing. This was such a sweet evening, and I am so grateful I was part of it!
It was also my first visit to Kauai, and my first experience of the island was so wonderful. I would love the opportunity to return. If you’re looking for a film photographer, I would love to chat.
